Ms. Naghma Zafir (Associate Professor)

Naghma Zafir has an MPhil from Pune University. She has been teaching language and literature to the undergraduate and postgraduate students since 1988 at Zakir Husain Delhi College. She has also taught Creative Writing and has conducted Workshops for poetry writing. She has also been a counsellor for postgraduate students at IGNOU for ten years. She was Teacher-Editor for the College Magazine Rambler for 5 years and President, Arts & Culture society for 15 years. She has translated fiction, poetry and critical work from Urdu into English. Her translated fiction and poetry include works of Qurratulain Hyder, Ismat Chughtai, Jeelani Bano Joginder Pal and Bilquis Hassan which have been published by Katha, Seagull, Urdu CanadaUrdu Alive and NBT.
Her other interest is theatre. She has directed several plays for inter college competitions which have won prizes. Plays directed by her have participated in Drama Festivals held by Urdu Academy and V V Karanth Drama festival held by NSD. She is currently working on Bilquis Hasssan's collection of 'children's short stories and poems called 'Dilchasp'. She has recently participated in a seminar on Translation Projects in the English Department organised by the CDC in association with CATA. She is also a visiting expert for English language at NSD, Delhi.
